Basque Coast
Surf, Michelin, belle-époque — forty-five minutes apart.
Biarritz and San Sebastián sit either side of the French-Spanish border, bound together by Atlantic surf, old cliff-walks and the world's densest run of Michelin stars. Biarritz is belle-époque hotels and long, wild beaches. San Sebastián is pintxos bars that take reservations seriously and cooking that takes itself entirely seriously. Between them, Irouléguy vineyards and Saint-Jean-de-Luz and a coast that has somehow stayed itself.
We fly here because the Basque country rewards the unhurried. Because a long morning on the coast and a long lunch over the border should be the same day. Because this is what the Côte d'Azur used to feel like, and in some important ways still does.
