Departing London
For six days in September, the two harbours of Cannes fill with everything that floats and matters, tenders to fifty-metre flagships, moored bow-to-stern so you can step from deck to deck. It is where the season's launches are unveiled and where the people who own this kind of thing come to see what's next. The rosé is incidental. The real business is done on the passerelle, in the quiet cabins away from the crowd.
We fly here because September in Cannes is the yachting calendar's opening night and the light is still summer. Because you want to arrive rested and unhurried, not off a red-eye with a lanyard. Because the Croisette is half an hour from the runway, and the harbour was built for exactly this weekend.
