The I.C.E. St. Moritz 2027

The I.C.E. takes the idea of a concours d'elegance, usually a manicured lawn, and moves it onto a frozen lake. Pre-war coachwork and post-war exotica are driven out onto the ice at St. Moritz, judged as much for daring as for provenance, engines turning over in air far too cold for them. It is the most photogenic morning in the classic-car year, and the marques the British have always loved are the ones that turn up.

We fly here because seeing a Bugatti idling on a frozen lake is worth rearranging a January for. Because the Engadin in winter flatters a beautiful car the way no lawn ever could. Because a morning built around this much taste and this much daring is not one to watch on a screen.
